Love You to the Stars Card

I love layers on my cards.  To me, layers scream "finished" on a card.  So when I came across the Let's Don't and Say We Did Challenge on Split Coast Stampers, I was intrigued.  The challenge was "to make the one layer card look like it has layers without adding card stock layers!!"  You can read more about the challenge by clicking here.

I knew had to take on this challenge.  I thought about it for several days, mulling it over, yet I couldn't quite figure out how to take on this challenge.  Then this morning I stumbled upon this wonderful sketch, Sketch 235 by Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Inspiration finally hit, and I put together this little one layer beauty.

I started by masking off my card so I could get the star background stamped and embossed.  After the embossing had cooled, I used the negative portion of my die cut circle as a stencil to sponge on some Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers.  Next I stamped a sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Lucky Star stamp set in the center of the circle.

The card still looked a little unfinished, so I wanted to define the stamped and sponged ares a little more.  I used a silver uniball pen to add lines to the top and bottom of the star background.  To keep the illusion that the blue circle was layered on top of the star background, I made sure to mask off the circle portion first.  I used the circle stencil again to add a little silver outline to the circle.

I would have loved to add some sequins or bling to finish off the card, but I really wanted to keep it flat and one-layered.  So I stamped and heat embossed three stars on top of the the circle instead to add to the illusion of layers.

It was a really fun card to put together, and I'm glad that I took on the challenge.  However, I think I'll stick my layered card!

Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me share.  Have a FANTASTIC day!

Love is in the Air Challenge

Just popping in with a card I put together for the Cards in Envy Love is in the Air Challenge.

Anyhow, here is my card:

I started with a sketch, but for the life of me, I can't find where I found this sketch.

I used some fun conversational heart paper that I cut at an angle and mounted onto a white card base.  I added strips of red cardstock to the middle edges of the heart paper to draw the eye to the sentiment.

I stamped the "be my valentine" stamp from The Paper Studio in Memento Love Letter ink.  To help ground the sentiment, I stamped a heart image from American Crafts Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm collection in Memento Angel Pink ink on both sides of the sentiment.

To finish the card, I added a die cut and dry embossed heart embellishment to the bottom right corner.  The heart is topped with small red button and some baker's twine.

Well, that's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out my card-a-day project site here, for your daily dose of card making inspiration.
